Information for Au Pairs

Cambridge Au Pairs enjoys a very good reputation in the region. The owner makes great efforts to understand the nature of the arrangement. She also checks on the facilities provided. She gives telephone numbers of other au pairs to those who have newly arrived and organised a tea party for new au pairs, giving them the opportunity to make contact with other local au pairs. Any difficulties can be discussed in confidence with Juliana by appointment.

Au Pair Duties
Your duties will generally comprise 5 hours of work per day, five days a week. This will include some light housework and help looking after children, (sometimes sole care of the children), cooking simple meals for them and keeping them amused. You may be asked to baby-sit in the evenings up to twice a week, provided this does not conflict with any of your evening language classes.

Conditions and Facilities
You will get two free days per week (not necessarily in succession) plus the hours when you are not working your 5 hours per day or baby-sitting. You will receive £55 for 25 hours per week. If you are a EU citizen the family may ask you to work more than 25 hours on occasions for about £2 per extra hour. You will be given a bedroom of your own, with a desk/table for private study. You can expect to be treated as a member of the family, sharing in family life and generally eating with them, but you will very likely prefer to spend free time with your own friends.

English Classes
You will have the opportunity to enrol in an English language class at a school in the neighbourhood for at least two classes per week, at times convenient for the family. You will be expected to pay for these classes.
